Is your pool ready for the best leak detection in Central Florida?

a pool that's ready for a pool leak detection
When you schedule a pool leak detection with Aaron’s we are ready to deliver the highest quality, most thorough leak detection possible.  But is your pool ready?

This article will help you understand what we need.

Reasonably clean

To begin with, the pool needs to be safe for our diver.  We’re going to be entering the pool so there needs to be some level of chlorine or sanitizer in the water.  On the other hand, please don’t shock or super-chlorinate the pool before our diver gets there!

Please don't shock your pool on the day of your leak detection appointment

After safety, visibility is the highest priority.  We can’t detect a leak we can’t see!

“So does my pool need to be perfect for your technician?”

Nope!

We just ask for the pool to be reasonably clean.  But what does that mean?

Most pools are in perfect shape for us to do our job, but if you’re unsure, please be mindful of the following:

The water needs to be mostly clear.  That means it’s not cloudy, green, milky or has “sunken dust”.  In the following images, the pool may be free from debris and leaves, but the poor water clarity will drastically limit visibility and in turn the quality of the examination we can deliver:

Unfortunately, this milky pool water required us to reschedule
A leak detection cannot be performed on this pool
This cloudy pool was unable to be tested due to visibility
Another cloudy pool requiring a cancelation and rescheduling

What do we mean by “sunken dust”?

It’s how we’d describe a pool that has been recently shocked or brushed, leaving a layer of dead algae on the floor of the pool. The water is clear but as soon as our technician enters, he’ll stir up the sunken dust, creating a dusty cloud and making the leaks undetectable:

While the pool water is clear in this photo, as soon as our diver enters the water the sunken dust will be stirred up, limiting visibility

To be clear (no pun intended), some leaves, algae or debris on the floor/wall of the pool is not a problem.  No pool is perfect and that’s not what we’re asking for.  We need the water to be safe, and have high visibility.

If your pool looks like any of those above, please reschedule your appointment for a time when your water clears up.

If you’re uncertain about your pool, please email pictures to our office at office@aaronsleakdetection.com or text them to (407) 924-9888.  The more pictures the better!

Filled to the Normal Level

Your pool is built to be watertight from the middle of the skimmer and lower.

If your pool loses water when it’s filled above the middle of the skimmer, do not be alarmed.  Most pools are not water tight above this level.  In fact, modern builders may install an overflow protection line to allow an overfilled pool to lose water over a certain point.  Our goal is to make sure your pool is leak free when filled to its normal level.

Fill your pool to the middle of your skimmer's face for our leak detection appointment

We understand it may be hard to keep water at the right level when you have a leak - that’s the whole reason you contact us - but we do ask that you fill it to the right level for our appointment, since we can only test what is below the water level.

We can only test what's below water level so please fill the pool

Some customers insist they know the leak is down lower in the level of the pool, so “why should I waste water and fill it all the way to the middle of the skimmer?”

While it may be true you have a large leak lower in the pool, you’re hiring us to find all leaks.  We can only test what’s below water level so we’ll find the large, lower leak but can also find any other leaks if the pool’s filled.  Further, when we’re done, you’re going to fill the pool to the right level anyway.  With a full pool, we can account for all the leaks, not just the lower leak in the pool.

“Why shouldn’t I fill the pool all the way to the deck?”

In short - we want to be held accountable!

Since we can repair most leaks we find on the spot, you’ll be able to tell pretty quickly if your leak issue has been resolved.  If your pool is overfilled (again, most pools aren’t built to be watertight above the middle of the skimmer) it will take longer for you to observe and ensure your pool is now watertight.

Pools are not built to be water-tight all the way to the deck

If all leaks have been repaired and your pool still leaks, we want to know about it and resolve it as quickly as possible.  There’s no need to delay getting this resolved so help us do the best we can by filling the pool to the middle of the skimmer.

Safe Pool Area

Lastly, we ask that the deck area is relatively clear of pool toys, pet mess or anything else that may limit or be hazardous for our technician.

Please make sure our technician has space to work around your pool

Again, we’re not asking for perfection, just a reasonable workspace to give you the best service possible!
